At Jason Bartlett Stalking, we’re committed to ethical, sustainable hunting and the principles of responsible deer management. Maintaining a healthy population of roe deer is essential for local ecosystems, and selective culling helps prevent overpopulation, disease, and crop damage.
As part of our service, we also offer guidance to local landowners and estate managers on long-term county deer stalking strategies, ensuring a balanced, thriving wild deer population across Somerset.
A popular experience with Jason Bartlett Stalking comprises of a four day stay in a hotel and includes 6 separate AM and PM stalking outings.
A typical day involves being out at dawn for the early AM session and then again for the PM session late afternoon.
You will be collected and returned to your accommodation for both sessions. Each outing typically lasts for three to four hours.
Your designated professional stalking guide will collect you in their truck from your accommodation and together you will make your way to the stalking ground. During the journey the guide will chat to you about your level of experience and explain what the plan is for your session. This is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Once you arrive at the stalking ground, your guide will accompany you on foot. The stalk can take several hours and requires a degree of patience. When a suitable deer presents itself, your guide will support you with timing and positioning to ensure that you can safely take the shot.
Afterwards, you will be returned to your accommodation where you can catch up on some well-deserved refreshments and rest before the afternoon session commences.
Alternatively, we can suggest some activities for your free time or for non-shooting members of your party. These may include visiting local historical sites, areas of natural outstanding beauty, relaxing at the local spa or even a visit to the local specialist sporting gun and hunting shop, who we have built up a good relationship with and who can provide advice on all manner of shooting equipment.
At the end of every trip we offer a trophy preparation service where heads are cleaned and bleached. We can then direct you to our preferred specialist, who can arrange shipping with you. This is an optional service
